The homeowner was looking to reconfigure the roof space and add an extension to his detached property in Orpington, they turned to the product solutions and technical support on offer from Marley.
Alistair Pont, Area Sales Manager at Marley explains: “The extension gave them the opportunity to explore the possibility of putting solar panels on their roof to help offset rising energy costs and give him access to a sustainable source of energy. To ensure the homeowner was able to access the power output their home needed, Marley’s technical team got to work and devised a roofing specification.”
Part of the early discussions centred around the feasibility of incorporating a solar PV solution as part of the roofing specification. Compatible with clay and concrete roof tiles, Marley’s SolarTile® was specified.

Once the roof design was reviewed, it became clear that by slightly altering the solar PV’s array layout, the initial four Marley SolarTile® panels that were specified could be increased to seven.
This would provide the homeowner with access to increased power generation output without compromise to the overall roofing aesthetic.
Alistair adds: “We shifted the array specification from a portrait to a landscape layout and the extra space allowed us to include three extra panels. We calculated that this would give the homeowner a total power output of 2.34 kilowatt - enough for their energy needs.”
Once the final specification was secured, Marley helped the homeowner liaise with Burton Roofing Supplies for the solar system.
Marley was also on hand through the installation process to support the homeowner and the roofing and electrical contractors to ensure a seamless installation.
The homeowner is delighted with the finished project and appreciative of the ongoing support Marley’s technical team provided to the completion of a bespoke and stunning roofscape.
